What does it do?
The Nexus Project provides the young people of Highworth and surrounding areas a focal point where they can meet, develop skills and engage with the wider community in a secure and safe environment. Initially the project came about as there was ‘nothing to do’ and no youth provision, other than church related, available in the town. The local police were strong backers of the need for this sort of facility.
The project provides a drop in youth café, a mentoring service and we intend holding regular live lounge music events, comedy evenings and poetry slams. The young people attending have access to trained Strengthsnet based mentors, can access help with homework, enjoy each others company playing games or simply relaxing in a space for them that sits between school and home. Nexus also provides broader opportunities to engage with wider activities in the town and beyond with planned events, outward bound activities and excursions.
Who is it for?
The Nexus project is for young people of secondary school age (and above) in the market town of Highworth and the surrounding areas. Many of the young people attending come from the local secondary school.
How is it supported?
Core funding for the project has come from the local town Council, local businesses, churches and individual donations. The project has recently become a registered charity and as a result has started to bid for additional funding from charitable trusts and foundations.
